The Brownstone - A Farmhouse Twist on a NYC Classic

Our vision at Omni Homes; is to design for today and beyond. Creating homes that never feel like they’re past their prime of popularity. It only seemed natural to add a brownstone home to our portfolio. What’s a brownstone? The term is characterized by its use of brown brick as the primary building material for the entire front of the home. Brick has been used in construction for centuries, and it has a rich history in architecture. Many iconic and historic buildings around the world feature brick facades, adding to its timeless allure. So grab your virtual key and step inside as we unveil the inside scoop on this infill house in Edmonton.

Charming red brick front infill house

The focus of this Westmount beauty was the brick. It couldn’t be too red, or too orange, or have too straight of lines…it had to be the perfect subtle red/brown with just the right amount of distressing to achieve a feeling of vintage charm. We found Carriage House by Hebron Brick Company from IXL checked all the boxes. Rather than sticking to the typical flat roof; we paired it with a gable to bring in the farmhouse home design. The quaint veranda enriched by white columns and picket railing were the perfect blend of tradition and present-day.

spacious white kitchen with a view of open riser stairs
hidden walk-in pantry

The kitchen was a harmonious balance of elegance and contemporary aesthetics; both inviting and comforting. The warm wood tones from the pantry, hood-fan, and Kentwood brushed oak ibis engineered hardwood flooring added an earthy element to the pristine all-white cabinetry backdrop.

We believe it’s the small details at Omni Homes that makes our homes unique. One of our secrets is we special order most of our cabinet hardware. The doors and drawers in this kitchen featured the Emtek jasper pull in polished nickel; a statement of both quality and style.

Our intention with the hidden pantry tucked away behind the integrated cabinetry would be that it would feel like an extension of the kitchen; making it feel more spacious and adding sophisication to the design.

spacious kitchen featuring double islands

We feel that kitchens with dual islands creates a visually stunning space while offering modern functionality. The first island serves as a cooking and food preparation hub, while the second island was designed for casual dining and socializing. This layout encourages a seamless flow from the kitchen to pantry, making it perfect for a busy family or entertaining guests.

The Restoration Hardware 20TH english cloche pendants in polished nickel shone as brilliantly as a diamond on a delicate hand. The light fixtures are the jewelry of the home and are a place we think is worth spending a little more on.

handmade tile backsplash

We just can’t get enough of the Tierra Sol tempo handmade series in snow. These unique tiles are designed to mimic the artisanal craftsmanship of handmade ceramics, complete with subtle imperfections and variations that give your kitchen a one-of-a-kind, artisanal feel. These tiles bring a sense of timeless beauty that can effortlessly complement various kitchen styles, from farmhouse to modern.

spacious dining room with piano window and modern chandelier

When designing any infill home; consideration has to be given to the neighbouring home. While it would be  our preference to have installed a larger window in this space that isn’t obscured… it would have infringed on the privacy of the home next door so we opted for a piano window. We finished the space with beautiful wainscoting below and a stunning Chapman & Myers bayview linear chandelier in polished nickel.

Modern quad bypass glass doors open to a patio, letting in natural light

Quad bypass patio doors are a great option to get a whole lot of glass coverage at an attainable price. Floor to ceiling windows fall into the realm of commercial pricing and can be very costly. The cozy workplace tucked next to the living room has you immersing yourself in your tasks while basking in the beauty of the surrounding environment.

stunning ensuite with freestanding tub and built-in linen tower

Nothing is worse than realizing you don’t have a towel when in the shower. Problem solved; this built-linen tower is a brilliant addition that not only maximizes your storage options but adds a touch of sophisication. Add the Emtek Alexander cabinet pulls in chrome, Mirolin Nuan freestanding tub, and Kohler purist floor mounted tub filler; you’ve a Pinterest worthy bathroom. Generation Lighting nori chandelier, Chapman & Myers bayview double left sconce in aged iron, and HomeSense mirrors finished the space.

curbless shower with linear drain, tiled wall, and built-in shower niche

One our of signature upgrades that you’ll find in most of our homes, is the curb-less shower. This not only makes the ensuite feel more spacious, it also enhances accessibility, and exudes an air of elegance. The understated simplicity of the Tierra Sol matrix series 12 x 24 in bianco created a space that is both clean and contemporary. The full length shower niche highlighted by coordinating mosaic tile, adds a touch of style and functionality.

Tray ceiling with shiplap inset and double french doors to closet

Installing shiplap in the tray ceiling was a design choice that took this primary bedroom to the next level. The horizontal wooden planks of shiplap with the black chandelier created a sense of rustic charm, evoking a farmhouse-inspired ambiance while lending a touch of interest to the ceiling.

Functional laundry room with green cabinets and floating shelves

Turning the chore of doing laundry into a delightful experience starts with a laundry room that’s both charming and functional. This is the perfect location to have a little fun and the seafoam cabinets were a breath of fresh air. Truth; we install white washer and dryer’s because they look prettier.
